SPECIAL EVENTS MANAGER

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Special Events Manager will work with external clients and stakeholders in planning and implementing successful events for the Charleston Dirty Birds. The ideal candidate is a highly organized team player with strong written and verbal skills who can collaborate with multiple departments to meet the needs of a variety of events. The Special Events Manager will also be responsible for leading the planning and management of all non-game events.

 

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Serve as the point of contact for all internal and external non-game events
  • Manage master event calendar for the facility 
  • Respond to facility rental inquiries in a prompt and professional manner 
  • Provide cost estimates to clients for non-game use of the facility including but not limited to concourse, seating bowl, hospitality areas and field 
  • Assist with planning, logistics and general event management 
  • Coordinate with internal departments such as Food & Beverage, Marketing, Box Office, and Stadium Operations to ensure all event needs are sufficiently met 
  • Serve as day-of on-site contact for large-scale events and those that require internal access to the facility 
  • Work with CPBC Leadership, Marketing and Sales departments to plan and implement promotional strategy for all internal events

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Event Management and/or Hospitality preferred 
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong public speaking and event management skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to conceptualize, execute, and see projects through to completion.
  • Ability to provide sound judgment and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job does not have any supervisory responsibilities or direct employees.

 

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college, or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.

 

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to communicate effectively (oral & written) with all types of clients, co-workers, and the general public. Ability to communicate effectively under pressure and when working under a deadline.

 

 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Knowledge to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as analyzing costs, return on investment, and analyzing metrics and statistics in comparison to set goals and performance.

 

 

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret directions and technical diagrams.

 

 

 

PROBLEM SOLVING REQUIREMENTS:

Employee must show discretion when making recommendations regarding options and event details for a Charleston Dirty Birds Baseball game or event.

 

 

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel Requirements: Does not require travel outside of Charleston
  • Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Work Environment: The incumbent primarily works in an office environment, however is expected to attend Charleston Dirty Birds Baseball Games and Special Events.

 

This work is performed primarily in a business office setting within a sports and entertainment facility. Events often take place outside of traditional business hours, on weekends, and holidays. Some areas of the facility may be noisy and subject to changing weather conditions. 

 

The ability to move swiftly throughout the facility and stand for long periods of time is necessary. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
