HV Power Electronics Engineer - Onsite

Position Overview:

GM Performance Power Units (GM PPU) is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge hybrid-electric powertrain systems for Formula 1. We're seeking a highly skilled HV (High Voltage) Power Electronics Engineer to join our elite team in pushing the boundaries of inverters in motorsport. This role is crucial in our mission to dominate the grid with innovative electric drive systems that will redefine the future of F1 racing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement high-voltage power electronics systems for CU (Control Unit) inverter.
  • Lead the preparation of specifications, proposals, and technical documentation for inverter designs.
  • Perform complex calculations and simulations for high-voltage systems using industry-standard software.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and optimal performance of inverter systems.
  • Conduct electrical tests and trials on new and existing inverter products in high-voltage laboratories.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues in high-voltage inverter systems.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors for inverter components.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of design and product development activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on power electronics or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in high-voltage electrical engineering, with at least 3 years specifically in inverter design.
  • Extensive knowledge of high-voltage power electronics, including IGBTs, SiC MOSFETs, and control strategies.
  • Proficiency in electrical simulation tools and CAD software, such as ETAP, PSCAD, LTspice, and MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Strong understanding of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards and their implementation.
  • Experience with space vector modulation (SVM) and field-oriented control (FOC) for motor drives.
  • Familiarity with automotive safety standards and regulations related to high-voltage systems.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with designing inverters for electric vehicle applications.
  • Knowledge of thermal management and packaging techniques for high-power density inverters.
  • Familiarity with Revit and AutoCAD for electrical system design.
  • Understanding of DC-DC converters and their integration with inverters.
  • Experience with EE-Sim OASIS for power electronics simulation and design.
