Job Description

The Flight Nurse demonstrates advanced critical thinking capabilities in working autonomously and in collaboration with other health care providers in the delivery of care to critically ill patients in diverse and non-traditional settings. Duties and Responsibilities include assisting and training medical crew members, making decisions for care and patient destination in conjunction with Flight Nurse or Paramedic partner, maintaining training and skills, assisting with quality assurance, caring for critically ill or injured patients, maintaining professional appearance and communication, checking equipment and supplies, working with multiple agencies diplomatically, and following all relevant laws and guidelines including HIPAA, EMTALA, and OSHA. The Flight Nurse must maintain all required certifications and perform duties within scope of practice. Qualifications include current Nurse certification in state of operations, minimum three years experience in critical care or emergency department, certifications in ACLS, an advanced trauma course, PALS, NRP, and CCRN, CEN, or CFRN within one year of hire. Physical requirements include ability to see, read, communicate verbally, manual dexterity, lifting and moving patients and equipment, and standing for extended periods. The Flight Nurse must weigh less than 215 pounds fully dressed at hire and maintain that weight.
