Job Description

The Executive Director Opportunity:
We are seeking our first paid, full-time Executive Director to expand our mission of empowering underrepresented youth to become their own bosses and build generational wealth.

This role is ideal for a dynamic, community-focused leader with knowledge of and experience implementing fundraising strategies who may come from a non-traditional career path. We value real-world experience, lived experience, and community leadership just as much as formal executive experience. Whether you are a recent graduate with leadership in community projects, someone with extensive volunteer experience, or an individual who has demonstrated leadership and project management in non-traditional ways, we encourage you to apply.

The Executive Director will drive growth and performance by inspiring and engaging participants, graduates, staff, volunteers, supporters, and partners. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic leader to advance an organization with proven results, strong community ties, sound finances, and a committed board.

Building on a strong foundation, the Executive Director will expand programming, increase impact, and engage more participants. They will lead the creation and execution of a new strategic plan, align staff and board efforts, and foster a values-driven, inclusive culture.

As the organization’s external champion, they will spearhead fundraising, partnership-building, and community presence while strengthening internal systems and staff development.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Organizational Leadership:
● Lead staff and board in developing and implementing a strategic plan with systems for ongoing updates.

● Oversee budgeting, HR strategies, and operational management tools.

● Serve as the organization’s ambassador, expanding awareness and building partnerships.

2. Team Leadership and Culture-Building:
● Foster an empowering work environment for staff, ensuring alignment with our equity-driven, participant-centered mission.

● Guide leadership to identify needs, set goals, and track outcomes.

3. Development, Partnerships, and External Relationship-Building:
● Develop and execute a fundraising growth plan.

● Represent Community Carrot to Seattle’s social service organizations and strengthen relationships.

● Lead donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship with staff and board collaboration.

● Advocate for Community Carrot with government and private-sector leaders.

4. Board Governance:
● Support active board involvement, ensuring they have the information needed to make informed decisions.

● Prepare for board and committee meetings and assist in recruitment to build a diverse, capable board.

Candidate Profile:
We encourage applications from candidates with a range of experiences, including those from non-traditional backgrounds. Strong candidates will demonstrate many of the following:

● Demonstrated experience building trust and developing deep connection within the communities we serve. Can be demonstrated through lived, personal, or professional experience.

● A passion for breaking the cycle of poverty through business ownership.

● Fundraising or partnership-building experience, with a record of securing philanthropic gifts or partnerships.

● Demonstrated leadership experience in nonprofit, community-based, or educational settings, such as strategic planning, team management, and budgeting. Business launch or growth experience is a plus.

● Relationship-building and advocacy skills, including experience representing an organization to donors, partners, and community members.

● A team-oriented leadership style, fostering a supportive and cohesive culture with opportunities for growth and feedback.

● Experience with grant writing.

We value a diverse range of experiences, including leadership in community initiatives, social justice projects, small business ownership, or other forms of grassroots leadership. If you are passionate about making a difference and have the skills to lead our organization, we want to hear from you.

Interested? Send resume and cover letter (not required) to info@communitycarrot.org . If someone from the organization shared this opportunity with you, feel free to mention them in your correspondence.
