Job Description

We’re seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting operations for a growing construction company. This role is hands-on and requires a deep understanding of construction accounting, job costing, and financial reporting. The Controller will ensure timely, accurate financials while leading a small team and improving processes to support continued growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations: general ledger, AR/AP, payroll, bank reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Manage job cost accounting, including WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and cost tracking by project.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and dashboards for executive leadership.
• Coordinate budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning in partnership with operations.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and industry-specific accounting rules (percentage-of-completion, etc.).
• Manage audits, bonding requirements, tax filings, and coordinate with external CPA firms.
• Implement and improve accounting systems, policies, and internal controls.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff, including AP, AR, and payroll functions.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
• 7+ years of accounting experience, including 3+ years in construction or job cost environments.
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles (e.g., WIP, retainage, contract billing).
• Experience with construction ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage 300 CRE, Foundation).
• Advanced Excel skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
• Detail-oriented with strong leadership and communication skills.
